Feed-in tariffs'sThe government has now brought in legislation that applies to renewable electricity generation technologies CHP, hydro power, photovoltaic's and wind turbines. The previous LCBP grants have now been withdrawn. The rates have been set bt technology for a designated design life with the rate degressing from the year of implementation. The tariffs are index linked and aim to provide a return greater than 7%. The technology and installer must be MCS (Microgeneration certification Scheme) to be accepted by the energy supplier and you must register with your electricty supplier after commissioning to ensure that you receive the tariff. The tariif is plit into the variable generation tariif and a fixed export tariff at 3p/kWh. Clearly it is bebficial to consume as much as possible to avoid the imported electricty price. Renewable Heat Incentives This legislation has been through consultation and is not due to come into effect until April 2011. The RHI payment is made by the energy company to the homeowner. These payments are not subject to degression but are RPI linked and proposed rates are set out in the table:
